  • Twin 250 hp ox66 motors burn differently

I have twin 1998 250 hp. ox66 fuel injected motors with approximately 750 hrs. One motor had a new power head installed at approximately 600 hrs. The motor with the old power head burns about 10% more fuel and oil than the one with the new power head. Is this a normal amount?

Has the compression been tested on the 750 hour engine? Has it been decarboned lately? An engine with 750 hours probably not going to perform as well as a new engine, but with tune-up and maintenance you should be able to keep it running good.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've had both motors tuned and decarbed at the end of last season. When the boat was surveyed about 200 hours ago, all cylinders were fairly equel. I suspect the new power head would burn more efficiently than the other motor - I was just curious if 10% seemed about right.

It doesn't seem that bad to me, but I havn't ever kept track of fuel consumption on any boats that we have done in that situation.
