  • Oil Pump Problems on 150

Oil reservoir on motor is almost full. Oil alarm goes off putting twin 150s in safe mode. Used to alarm only when oil level got to 1/2. Now seems to alarm randomly. Oil tank in transom does not pump to reservoir on motor. Oil getting in motor. Oil not getting pumped into reservoir. Tank in transom stays full. Pump on reservoir appears to be working. not sure if pump on tank in transom is working or if sensor on reservoir is not 'requesting' more oil. thinking of replacing sensor inside reservoir and pump on oil tank in transom. any suggestions?

It's hard to say. Are both engines going into safe mode? What model and year 150's do you have? Are you sure it is a oil alarm and not an overheat alarm? If you Yamaha tach with oil level indicator it should be signaling low oil(red light). The oil alarm should only signal if the oil level in the engine oil tank is at or below lower line on tank. If tank is full and signaling an alarm then test the eng. oil level sensor.
