  • 150 HPDI oil consumption

Newbie to this form and my first pair of Yamahas.

    I have a pair of year 2000, 150 HPDI's with about 200 hours that run great !!!

Starboard motor is burning an excessive amount of oil( much more than 1gal oil / 50 gal gas). Appears to be twice as much as the port motor just by a visual on the larger, onboard tank.

Engine is not smoking excessively and is not running rough or missing.

I have the Yami. shop manual and have not checked the oil pump linkage.

Anyone else have this problem ? Thoughts or suggestions ?

    Thanks!

Generally in the initial break-in service, the oil pump linkages are set back as in the beginning you need more oil for break-in. Check to see if yours have been set back as it may have slipped by. look at your pump linkage and ensure the arm stops on the set pin on the pump. you may need to have someone work the throttles to see the parts move.

a hpdi's settings(throttle and oil) are very sensitive. there is much more to it than turning a screw or two. you have to set the throttle with a multi meter. better have a dealer look at it.
