• Dangers in using a 25in leg

I have a 90hp with a 20in leg. The boat is outfitted for a 20 leg. I also have a 115hp with a 25in leg and would like to use it. Are there any reasons why I shouldn’t do this? Or should I be OK?

Thank you for your time to reply.

as long as the base gaskets are the same you can switch powerheads. now if you are talking about switching lower units to a different size then it becomes very costly, as you need to change out drive shaft, waterline, shift shaft, midsection etc.if all parts from each motor are interchangeable...why not just swap heads???

yama',
As long as you can mount the 115 high enough on the transom - go for it.
You want the cavitation plate riding just on top of the water surface when you get on plane and trim out. Any lower, and you've got extra drag.
For most V-bottoms, this means with the motor at right angle to the keel, the cavitation plate should be even with or just slightly higher than the keel. If you are too low, then better go with the 90.
Good luck ,
