  • Prop slippage

At high rpms sometimes my prop seems to slip. I used a paint marker to verify it. The slippage seems to be between the rubber hub and the outer casing. I just got the boat last fall and haven't had any reason to remove the prop until I recently noticed some reving at higher rpms lately. When I removed the cotter key and removed the nut I noticed that the nut wasn't even snugged up. I didn't have the right size socket to tighten the nut when I put it back on. Can this alone cause the prop to slip and is it likely that torqueing the nut tighter could solve the slippage problem??? It's a 23 pitch stainless steel prop on a 89' 150 pro V on a 89' Stratus 279 V.
