    What RPM should it idle????
    Out of gear??
    In gear??

  • #2
Book says idle rpm should be 700(+/-25) in neutral, and 570 (+/-25) idling in gear.

      Thanks tons Mike!!!!
I thought it was awful low. It's running about 400 in gear and about 540 (or so) in neutral. When I use the throttle to speed it up to around your numbers it smoothes out real nice.
Another question: By looking at the idle screw and mechanism it looks like when the idle screw is adjusted there is a rocker assembly that operates the carbs that will also need to be adjusted. Is this correct????

You should be able to turn the idle adjustment screw and bump the idle up to spec's without having to run through all the other linkage adjustments. But if you don't have a service manual for your motor go to www.YamahaPubs.com and order one for about $60. It'll have all the adjustments and whatnot in there.
