1720CC upgrade
Thinking of putting one of these in my 1720CC. Do you think I'll need to move the console forward to prevent the scuppers taking on too much water?

Probably fast enough to fold the hull. Navy engineer once told me aircraft carriers could go much faster than they do. The worry is that the hull will fail from pressure at some point.Originally posted by zenoahphobic View PostImagine what HP you would get if you ran that engine at more conventional speed of 5000rpm. At 50 times more how fast would that Maersk go?
Those big container ship diesels shake the waterfront here when they pass River Street. It worries me standing next to the old buildings.

It's not quite as simple as adding more power gives more speed, displacement hulls have an almost "set" speed, and putting 10 times the HP, might increase speed by a tiny amount, but strange things start to happen, the boat does not just start planing, in fact, most just drive deeper into the water, more power is needed for cargo carrying, not speed.

you could water ski at 27 or a lot of people could, but it would be hard to get up on top with the slow acceleration and you would need a very long ropeOriginally posted by panasonic View PostIt says 110,000 HP at 102 RPM will give her 27 knots max speed...Last edited by 99yam40; 12-12-2017, 09:29 PM.
