This 5606 Hydro fluid. Can the excess I may not need be stored in a plastic bottle? Might there be issues?

If your planning on using it in a airplane in the future then it must stay in the original container and sealed (plastic lids that fits on those cans)

But I don't think you are going to do that....so a motor oil plastic bottle clearly marked 5606 HYDRAULIC FLUID would be good.


Why don't you just use ATF????

Seastar docs say 5606 ok to substitute for their expensive steering fluid.

That's what I thought. If it is only $5.00 a quart and you can get it readily then 5606 is fine. But ATF will work perfectly fine in a steering system like that.

when the need first arose, I refused to buy the Teleflex Liquid Diamonds - IIRC I googled a gallon of 5606 - shipped - for the price of a local Seastar quart.

That savings was enough to satisfy me - although I have no doubt ATF - or even Tractor Supply hydraulic oil - would work fine.
