• lcd gauge and wiring

greetings:
am restoring a boat with an early to mid 90's (unable to verify) yamaha "precision blend" 150 hp 2 stroke v6 outboard. biggest issue is electrical. systems work 1 time then not another for no aparrent reason. would probably order wiring harness if could identify. recently replaced LCD marine meter with identical model. on the face is tach, on left, with 3 oil icons below (red, yellow, green) and what appears to be trim gauge set as a verticle bar graph on the right.
rear of gauge has a blue wire and a black wire (lights?). second bundle of wires consists of 8 wires (pink, orange, green, yellow, green with dark red stripe, green with white stripe, black with white stripe, and black) coming out to 3 songle wires (green, yellow, black) and 2 plugs. plug 1 has 2 wires( green with white stripe, and green with dark red stripe). second plug has 3 wires in ( pink, orange, and black with white stripe) and a single gray wire leaving the plug.
based on this info, is there any to identify what wiring harness should be used?
thanks much...
Jeff-Bateman, still in drydock...

Jeff,
The boats.net guy could answer your question, but he is probably off today.
There are several different rigging configurations - check the "boats.net knowledge base" at the top of the forum - I believe your answer will be there.
Good luck ,

Ken:

thanks for the rapid response, although I'll have to wait for the boats.net guy to return to work. when accessing the knowledge base, keep getting the following error, "Not Found
The requested URL /kbase/index.html was not found on this server."
would you know if there is another url for this page?

thanks again.

are your motor side harness connectors round or square? round would be pre 94 and square after.are all of your harness ends cut off? if not, they are just plug and run, just color match the harnesses to the motor plugs, oil tank and gauges.if your motor will not RUN, you have another issue.

hey guys:

refering back to the gauge I described at the top of the post, 2 more questions:

1.the motor trim vertical bar graph. is there any way to calibrate this? right now it is showing between 4 and 5 with the motor almost straight up and down, zero trim.

2. in the tach window there is a small reddish block in the lower left hand corner. any ideas as what this indicates?

thanks.

Sorry I missed your post. If the replacement tach connects to all the wiring harness's then it should work ok. If the replacement tach has the newer square connector harness then you will need adapter's to make work. If all harness's are connected and the gauge quits working(no display at all) then check connections on Yellow and Black wires at gauge and at key switch for bad connections. Also check the grey inline fuse holder at engine, fuse may not fitting holder tightly enough, making a poor connection.
