  • Yamaha F150 starting problem

We have a 2004 F150 which is used most weekends, but after sitting for 6 weeks we have a problem.the starter could hardly turn the flywheel , we changed battery but still the same, we removed starter and had it checked - starter ok
Bridged starter to bypass relays - still no difference . Removed spark plugs, engine turning slightly better but no way fast enough. Tried to turn flywheel with socket (spark plugs removed) but still feels that its very tight, it's not in gear as the prop turns freely by hand.
    Does anyone have any ideas

I hope you tried to turn the flywheel clockwise?

You need to put a volt meter on the starter lug when cranking to see the voltage drop.

Either a bad battery or bad electrical connection/ ground.

drop the lower unit to see if that is what is causing the binding.
at least then you know if the problem is in the lower unit, drive shaft bushing(if it has one) or in the power head

            It does have one..

He can also squirt penetrating OIL at/on the top of the drive shaft (just visible) above the mid-section which would seep down to the bushing. If that bushing was seized, the oil should help and he's narrowed down the issue. It would need re-greasing after that IMO..

On the same train of thought, we don't know when the WP, etc was serviced last, IE, impeller broke up, jambing, etc. The F150 impeller is extremely stout.
