  • CDI unit voltage

    Hi guys i have a 60hp 2 stroke 2002/3
With the battery voltage at 12.5 volts what should the supply voltage to the CDI unit be ?

    o v.
the CDI on that motor does not receive battery voltage.
    are you having an issue?

Battery voltage has no bearing on charge coil peak voltage.

charge coil is what sends voltage to CDI for spark
Lighting coil is what sends voltage to a battery

        Thanks for the reply guys
I have been having intermittent running issues for some time and clutching at straws now, i took it out last week for a few hours and although it was bogging down a bit it was ok.
So when i got back and was looking at the carbs and found no 2 carb had a tiny split in the fuel hose so i replaced the 30mm length of pipe and when i took it out the following week it ran like shit, would start and run ok on idle but as soon as i throttled up the engine just cut ggggrrrrrrrr.
I am a car technician by trade but 2 strokes are the devil for me.

        Compression's are 130psi across all 3 cylinders
The spark appears to be good on all 3 (but not the same as a car)
        Fuel tank & line new
Fuel pump diapgram checked all ok
Checked resistance on all sensors against yamaha specs all ok
And i can strip & reassemble all 3 carbs faster then an AK47 LOL
My gut instinct says its a carb issue

A slit on the pressure side of pump will cause a leak not suck air in.

sounds like you still have a problem with the carbs

compression, spark, timing, and fuel pressure/vacuum are all easy to test.
if all of that is good them you have problems with fuel to air ratio.
either a vacuum leak between carbs and intake or carb jets.passages are plugged

Install the needle and float, tip the carb up where the the
float is pushing the needle down, the float should be level
              with the bowl matting surface.

Cleaning them properly is most important.
