  • F115 Stator troubleshooting

    Hey guys -

    My motor is a 2002 Mercury 4-stroke 4-cyl. Effectively a Yamaha F115.

One of the problems noted with the engine when I took it out for the first time is that the stator does not seems to be kicking the right voltage out. I would expect 13-14v, however, I am seeing 12.3v at idle and the number does not change when I rev up.

Any ideas on where to start poking and what to look for?

I have heard the Mercury service manuals are a lot more detailed than the Yamaha ones.
Take some voltage readings as the service manuals call for in their troubleshooting steps

why do suspect the stator and not the regulator/rectifier?

I would expect the unloaded peak voltages from each of the stator coils, at a minimum, to be:

        1500 RPM = 37
        3500 RPM = 89
