  • Removing drive shaft

    1989 40 3 cycle 2 stroke Yamaha.
I've removed the prop assembly and need to remove the pinion nut to remove the drive shaft to replace the bearing (rusted) and seals.
I don't have a spline-type socket to turn the shaft while holding the pinion nut.
I don't think it wise to turn the shaft with a vise-grip, pipe wrench etc. Any suggestions. The Manual calls for part No. YB-6079 which looks to be a spline-type socket.
    Thanks, Mark

You can email the boats.net parts dept. by completing the contact form at top of this page and give them the tool part number and get information about ordering it. You will need it to properly torque pinion nut.
