  • Torque Settings

I have a 2008 Yamaha (F40BTLR) 40 HP 4 stroke. I am trying to find the torque setting for the water pump housing bolts. Also, the torque setting for the four bolts which attach the lower unit to the upper unit.

    Many thanks in advance!!!

29 pound-feet on the lower unit attach bolts.

Water pump housing bolts are a function of the size of the bolt, which you did not specify.

It is all articulated in the service manual. Including the use of Locktite on the pump housing bolts.

Lower unit torque is 29lb-ft, as boscoe indicated. Water pump bolt torque is considered in general torque specs. This information is located in your service manual. Highly recommend investing in one.

If used in salt water, per our resident Master Tech, for the WP, DO NOT use loctite.

Light coating of grease on the threads, then good and snug (for the WP)...

And yes, it was discussed in detail re loctite (per the manual and real life).
I just did mine, used grease only. No issues.

BTW, I have a tube of brand new, never opened, white loctite I can give you a deal on! (specified in the manual)
