  • Tachometer issues

I've got a 2004 stratos 285 with a 2003 Yamaha Vmax 150. Tach went bad so i replaced it with OEM tach and that one doesn't work either. Whats my next step to troubleshoot the issue?

while waiting for input from Rodbolt or others,
you might want to tell what they were doing or not doing.

powering up OK but not reading RPM or ?

          analog tach?
          digital tach?
do the visual indicates light up at key on?
that carbed V6 uses the ECU based on pulser coil inputs to generate a tach signal.

I guess the OEM tach part is a bit confusing. I should have said it was the stock one that came with the boat which is a stratos gauge. It is a analog gauge and last time I took it out it jumped around erratically. Right now it doesn't move at all and it sits on 500. The back light for the graph comes on but that is it. I'm hoping this answers the questions.

use a multi meter and check for voltage on the green tach send to ground when the motor is running.
voltage will increase with engine speed.

not bad today light N wind and about 45*.
yesterday got slam nasty about 2pm. I was replacing the seawater pumps on a 28 criscraft and it was shaking the boat on the work rack.
yesterday the temp went from about 70* to about 40* in about 20 min.
