low oil problems

I have a 1999 130 saltwater series motor. recently while coming back from fishing the alarm sounded -- i was low on oil in the remote tank -- i ran @ low rpm's for awhile then the motor shutdown and would not start back up. it would start at fast idle but stall out when at regular idle -- is this some type of safety system or what would cause this?

No there's no safety shutdown if you run out of oil. More likely there's crap in your carburetors blocking the idle jets and passages. Could be a number of things really.
