  • Tach's Black Box Control Unit

Took this tach with wiring off a 17’ Winns boat years ago that had a Yamaha F115, the donor motor for my Pontoon.

What function does the black box control unit do?

The two wires coming off the control unit are dark green, which is the tach sender.

The three wires, Yellow is 12v on, Black is ground, and the pink is alarm.

To use this tach on a future project do I just connect the exiting wires to the matching colored wires off the 10-pin loam?

    you got an atikeum.
that tach nor con*****er will work correctly on anything made after about 1989.
the tach itself will work on about any Yamaha you just wont use the control module.
to use the original round connectors you will need either round to square adapters or the original pre 1995 harness.
that tach wont work correctly with any fourstroke.
warning signals are different for the indicates.

          yep
it is NLA from Yamaha USA.
was mostly used on 2 and 3 cyl models here in the states.

The tach has this three settings in the back.

What would the part number be on this gauge?

              there is no part number
              it is obsolete.
the warning lamps wont work with a fourstroke.
the switch settings are for 4 pole,6 pole and 12 pole.
different engines used different lighting coils.
in it's day, prior to 1995, that tach could be used on two strokes from a two cyl to the V6.
in 1996 all were switched from round connectors to square, most from 95.
the closest you will get now is the pro series analog.
