Lower casing

Hi all I've dropped the lower gear case off to replace the water pump on my 1978 Yamaha two stroke twin, what sealant should I use on the casings for the reassembly

I have never heard of anyone using a sealant on the actual casings.

You would not apply sealant.

Apply marine grease to the threads of the 4 bolts securing the water pump housing to the base plate assy.

Apply marine grease to splines of drive shaft, but not the top of shaft.

Apply marine grease to the threads of the 6 bolts securing lower casing to upper casing.

Damn things can be hard enough to separate on occasion without having to deal with sealant too...

Sure.

BTW, don't know if anyone realized, Yamaha does NOT give a torque rating for those four pump bolts..

You would think, being its a non metal housing, with a SS insert, bolted down to a plate thru to an aluminum LU, they'd post a #.

They have torque figures for EVERYTHING ELSE....
