  • oil injection -check- remove??

Gents- '99 225 ox66 - I was told by previous owner that he was mixing oil/gas. How can I check this? What is block off proceedure?

What was the reason he was pre-mixing oil/fuel? Is the reserve tanks pump and engines oil pump operational? If either or both pumps aren't working then pre-mixing will suffice.

To determine if reserve tank pump works, drain oil from engine main tank. Turn ignition key ON. Low oil alarm should sound. Watch the main tanks level as it should be filling (you can also feel the pump with your hand to confirm its on). Alarm stops once oil fills above bottom line on tank. If the pump does not turn on, that's probably the reason previous owner pre-mixed.

If you are uncertain of the oil pump working, before running engine you should definitely have a pre-mix fuel in the tank. Do not ever run engine without knowing for certain oil is being delivered. To determine if engines oil pump works, take a piece of tape and stick it on the tank at the top level of oil. Disconnect reserve tank oil harness at tank (assuming its pump works). Go run the boat for 10-15 min at a descent rpm/speed. Check level of oil. If level is below tape, you're good. If not...thats the reason the previous owner was pre-mixing.

Some operators will run their engines with a more rich oil/fuel ratio than the predetermined ratio the oil injection provides. This is more common with older 2 stroke engines to provide additional lubrication for aging parts.
