  • Water pressure gauge

I am in the process of installing a water pressure gauge on a 2005 115 hp Yamaha four stroke engine. Is the port next to the dipstick on the starboard side of the engine the water pressure port, see picture in URL below?

I attempted to back the plug out of this port and it appeared that the threads may be stripping. I back the plug out one quarter turn and torque continue to increase instead of decreasing, I then screw the plug back, with high torque. Is the torque typically hi to back this plug out? If the threads do strip how difficult is it to repair?

That is the port. The plug seems to be installed with some kind of sealant. Be a man about it and power down on the wrench.

      Thanks for the feedback.

If the torque to back out this plug is typically high, I feel better about backing It out.

well, even if the plug is galled and strips some threads, its not the worst area to access.

worst case, you'll have to buy a tap to chase the threads.

If it galls, I think I will use a helicoil to repair it.

Most likely threads will be destroyed.
Water gauge in my opinion is useless.
            Change impeller very easy.
