  • Float charger

I bought a cheap float charger for my batteries and read the reviews saying that the charger will eventually kill the battery. He was saying that the output was 14.5-14.9. I don't want them to kill my battery. Do I just measure the volts of the battery when the float charger is hooked up to battery and if it's higher then say 13.5 volts the charger is no good? Also would I need two float chargers in order to maintain both batteries or can I hook them up in series to maintain both of them? Thanks

Do not connect them in series; that gives you one 24 volt battery.

In theory, if both batteries are already fully charged, you could "float them both together in parallel

    As you surmise,

the voltage that matters is what is measured when connected to the batteries -

if it does not drop to around 13.5 you will be heating the batteries and boiling off the water.

In which case, just don't leave the charger constantly connected.
