So, should I try a synthetic blend oil? Or change the filter and live with it? Would it hurt to try the oil?

    thanks

the Ford F150s we were talking about are not Yamaha outboards.

I would stick with what Yamaha recommends.
change the filter like they said and see if that makes a difference.

Always change one thing at a time if you want to know for sure what fixed a problem

It will only hurt your wallet.

Yamaha offers mineral oil and 100% synthetic oil for your motors. Other brands of mineral, semi-synthetic and 100% synthetic oils are available that meet Yamaha's requirements. It is anyone's guess as to how your motor will perform with one type of oil versus a different type.

Did you change/clean the OCV filter by the way?
