• 86 115 Trim Tilt Help

took the boat out yesterday. twin 1986 115s.
tilted motors down ounce launched. ran aroound.
stopped and anchored in shallow water. tilted engines up.
~2 hrs later, tilted motors down and ran around for a while.trimmed to level boat.
again anchored in shallow water. tilted motors up.
later tilted first motor down. hit the switch for the second. sounded ok but looked back and it wasnt going down. tryed to raise it. no mvement.
any thoughts as to what could be wrong? low fluid?
also, what sort of fluid does it take? at fluid?
thanks for help.

cliff,
If you hear the t/t motor running, yet the outboard is not moving at all, then the t/t pump is probably bad.
With the outboard in the up position, and with the fluid level a little low, the outboard should come down at least a little.
If you can get the outboard up all the way, drop down the tilt locking lever for safety, and then check the fluid level at the filler cap.
You can loosen the bypass valve screw on the t/t unit and manually pick up the motor - drop down the locking lever and re-tighten the bypass screw
and then check the fluid level.
Dexron 2 ATF will work fine.
Good luck ,
