  • Engine will not start

Turning the key you get the audio sound warning but no crank. Trying a few times and than it will crank and start. This does not happen all the time . About every 4th or 5th time taken the boat out. Than it will only be on the first start and be OK the rest of the day.
Could there be a dead spot on the starter winding ? Don't know if the relay is engaged when Turning the key. Could it be a bad relay ?

This is for your 2004 HPDI 150? Please give the complete model #. S/B either of these two: VZ150TLRC, Z150TXRC. Others will want to know.

Sounds like bad connection or relay. You should be able to hear the relay click when you turn the key to start. Doubtful if it's a "bad spot". You may want to check/clean/tighten any electrical connections you feel comfortable with. check/clean/tighten any grounds on the block as well.

Maybe weak battery, bad/corroded battery cable connections, bad cables....

Are you getting a "CLICK" from the engine when you turn the key to crank?

If so, its likely the relay. (I had exactly the same symptoms and it was indeed the starter relay)..

You should see close to 13 volts at the relay, check the starter terminal and see if your getting 13 volts there.

Sounds like voltage drop testing is in order to check connections. Have battery load tested first to rule that out. Check all connections after. At least in this order it will not cost you anything....
