Just took delivery of a new boat with new 90hp. The old Evinrude power tilt rods always retracted out of sight when you put them all the way down after the tilt lock was on. The manual seems to indicate the Yamaha tilt rod should retract fully down as well but it does not seem to. Manual suggests you always retract it after putting tilt lock on. Does rod actually dissapear or is it just a sleeve perhaps?

Looking at the diagram for your motor in the online catalog above, there is only one hydraulic ram, so I guess it serves both as the trim ram and tilt ram.
I do not believe the single ram will retract as do the trim rams on the older three rams configuration.
