  • F90 ISC issues, yds #'s help

    ongoing idle issues..2008 F90txr

    had intermittent poor idle, wouldn't start at all sometimes, if i cracked the throttle open in neutral it would run at about 1000rpm but if i backed down the throttle it would stall, replaced ISC worked perfect for about 10 hrs then started acting up again... no codes at all.

    found the wires were broke and rewired. so now i have 3 ISC valves. with the YDS all three move on the static test. the older 2 i can not get the motor to run at all. the newest one it will run while its cold but will stall in 10 minutes.. and won't restart until it sits a while...i notice that when i run the static test when it returns to 60% the pintle on the three valves are at different lengths the shortest to the longest is about 1cm difference.

    I have little faith in the place i bought the boat and took it to for help. they told me they knew the ISC was bad because the resistance across the poles but when i checked were the same as the brand new one i had put in

    Can the bad wiring harness cause the newest ISC valve to start to fail???

    I'm trying to figure out what is causing these to go bad as opposed to continue throwing 200 dollar bandaids on the problem..

    i got it to run for 10 minutes or so before it stalls

    no ISC codes .
    the ECU does NOT monitor the ISC.
    it will show a request , hat is the % it has requested open or closed.
    this is how the ECU controls the idle speed.

      i get that ... my question was can the harness cause the ISC to get damaged, and work intermittently . if i buy a new ISC will it work for 10 more hours... what is causing it fail... why do 3 of them work with the static test. but will only run with one of them

        its my understanding that if the ISC itself gets too hot it can mean its failing or has failed... now the ISC does get hot when it is running but i don't have a thermometer to verify this.. also i understand a bad ISC can cause an ECU to fail which is not all that common...what would the symptoms of a failed ECU be

          look for any air leaks.
          notice the intake pressure moved for about the same throttle angle?

          look for any clogged injectors.
          look for fuel contaminated engine oil.
          at 58% that motor should idle a lot higher than at 38%.

          temp gun the ISC just before it stalls.
          if its much over 200*F its overcurrenting the ECU.
          the ECU controls the ground path, it toggles the ground to make it move in or out.
          if something is wrong it toggles to much and overheats it.

            couldn't find any air leaks, injector spray looked good, and sounded fine when listening with a stethoscope. oil looked and smelled normal.. got a temp gun and ISC did not get above 140. 2 more times ran idled like crap and stalled within 5 minutes or so... wouldn't restart, if i static cycled the ISC it would restart and run for a couple more minutes and start surging and stall....
            i didn't realize you had to clear the codes in order for them to go away so i cleared them and the 29 code came back
