  • 9.9 4-stroke won't fire

this is a motor I bought 2 years ago, and have had sitting since
when I bought it, she started easy and strong, but would slowly quit due to fuel pressure drop

I could nurse the prime bulb to keep her going, so diagnosed it as bad fuel pump
last summer, had a family health crisis, and boat stuff got neglected

just replaced the fuel pump tonight, but she is not firing
I have not pulled plugs yet, but that's next

she is acting like lanyard switch is faultly - cranks and cranks, not a hint of fire - used to be chick-vroom - no need to crank at all

so I unscrewed front end of the switch, which *should* un-ground the power lead, correct? same as pulling the yellow/black wire? (in my case, white)

if there's a different way to temporarily bypass the lanyard switch, I'd love to know (it is not obvious how to disconnect a lead from the rear of the switch - kind of looks like someone replaced the switch - doesn't seem as robust as a typical Yamaha part)

    any thought greatly appreciated

I will try to post a couple pics and a video

Check for spark first, starting by pulling random things to bits rarely fixes anything, if you have spark, forget the kill switch! Start trouble shooting what you might have done when you replaced the fuel pump.
