• T8 Water Pump/Impeller change

I ordered a water pump repair kit from this web site for my T8 High Thrust long shaft (2004) and was wondering if there is anything special that I need to know.

I see there are 3? bolts (1 goes through the zinc) to drop the lower unit.
I will use the Permatex 14A teflon thread seal and marine grease as I put it all back together.

Anything I should know before I have at it?

Jack,
I believe there are four bolts holding the lower unit, not including the anode bolt.
Take a look at your motor in the online catalog above.
Notice the direction that the impeller paddles on the old impeller are pointing. Make sure the new one is the same when you install it.
I've never done a repair on your model motor, but on my C115, I hold o-rings in place with marine grease while pushing the impeller cup/housing in place. Be sure to grease the impeller and cup.
I rotate the drive shaft clockwise, and the cup/housing ccw while pushing down on the housing. This will bend the paddles in the correct direction.
It would be nice to have a shop manual to guide you along.
Best to torque the water pump and lower unit bolts per the manual.
Good luck ,

Thank-you Ken!

I have since obtained a Shop Manual.
Once I get my water pump repair kit and a little more confidence and time, I'll have at it.

Cheers,
Jack
