  • 2002SX tilt problem

2002 200hpSX outboard when tilt switch is pushed it sometimes does not work on up and sometimes does not work on down when pushed, just clicks. Usually after many attempts, does start working. Anyone know problem?

At the engine or at the helm?

Generally, they'll wear out or just develop a crappy contact / connection inside.

My engine up/down switch (06 model) started acting up going down bout 2 months ago.

Sprayed the switch itself with Liquid Wrench and played with the switch(up and down). Works fine now...

if you are hearing a click , that means the relay is picking up and the switches are doing their job.

if the relay is not making the T&T motor turn then you have a problem with the relay contacts (inside), wire connections(including grounds), or the motor itself( brushes not making contact on armature maybe)or other motor problems

If your other switch is working fine all the time, its in the other switch..

You can eliminate the T&T motor by testing it while its disconnected.

Simply un-plug it and run 12 volts to the two wires. One way with the wires, the engine will go up, the other way with the wires it'lll go down.

If the the T&T motor doesn't work that way, the issue is in the motor itself.

If it works fine, the issue is further "up stream".
