      Hey Scott,

Don't know how to put this on the YamahaParts forum, but would you give a listen ?
I assume this balancer is well along toward needing replacement ........... I have one arriving this week, but just wondered what you think.

      End quote...

Mine was never this bad and he wanted an opinion (and couldn't post the video here). Suggested he post it here for others opinion that's familiar with the failure..

I was told it sounds like a broken washer machine when failing. His is definitely way noisier than mine ever was..

My tired old ears are not that good but that motor whines worse than my fourth wife.

Well over due for a change to the updated configuration.

If it is real bad there will be shed plastic that needs cleaning out

Guys - thanks for the replies. I'm planning to do the replacement next weekend
Once I get the old balancer off - will it be obvious if the existing gears have been
'shedding' material ? If so - what next ?

Look for pitting on gears. Had maybe 3-4 spots. No issues since.

I'd compare the old gears to the new one's ("wear wise").

I'd cross the "what if" bridge when / IF, you get to it
