  • Testing Oil Injection Pump on P115

I changed all the oil injection pipes/hoses (see http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/f...5-th26185.html for details) primed the pump and have been running the engine on pre-mix while using the boat for 3 hours. The oil pipes are running blue with oil and everything looks OK.

I'd like to test the oil injection pump, and my manual says the output should be 3.2 cubic centimeters +-0.3 in 3 minutes at 1500 rpm. Now, that equals like 0.10 oz to 0.12 oz in three minutes, not much oil. The margin for error is very big, I mean, who can measure 0.02 oz difference? It sounds absurd, even if I run it for 12 minutes, it'll be .40oz to .48 oz.

There oil in the pipes and no air, should I just forget about testing it?

lets use a small amount of the gray matter inbetwixt the ear lobes.

typically Yamaha published data is for one line at a time.

works ok but like you say the increments are stupidly small.

better method does require some math.

multiply the oil output by the number of cylinders.

now disconnect the line from the engine oil tank.

install a graduated cyl with the known amount of oil.
    see if it uses it.
almost the same as the old OMC VRO oil CONSUMPTION test.

either way run on PREMIX while testing.
