  • Need to know recommended ohms for ignition coil

I have a 1998 yamaha 115 2 stroke. What are the acceptable tolerances for both the primary and secondary ohms on the ignition coil. Thanks in advance.

its an ign coil not a mystical magical unicorn handler.

typical primary resistance is less than 2 ohms usually less than 1 ohm.

typical secondary resistance is around 2-3k ohms.

works that way with most all ign coils.

Yamaha ign coil failure is very very rare.

Your right, ignition coil is fine. I'm just frustrated and grasping for straws.

Hang in there, I know Rodbolt has also said in the past that coil failure is rare, I have a 115hp coil that defies measuring faulty but a new coil made the engine back to good.
Not saying new coil will fix your problem as we don't really know what it is. But if can get hold of another coil free from somewhere try swapping.

In my case the engine was difficult to start when cold, but under power ran fine. A new coil which I had to wrench from the dealers hand got rid of those often subtle starting difficulty. I must admit that ohm readings were a little lower but within specs leading to my hunch.
