Believe it is Com 1. The key has to be ON If I remember correctly so the USB port reads the dongle or whatever the damn thing is called...

Scott, you have to go into the Windows "Device Manager" settings,

find the "COM Port" settings, for "USB Serial Port"

    change that to COM 1

Well, plugged everything in, opened up the software app (with the USB port (checked all of them). The engine is NOT communicating with the lap top.

It had me re-install the disc for updates which I did, still not communicating.

I'm thinking (with reading how to operate), a setting needs to be changed in the computer.

If not, any idea's are welcome...

    Didn't burn anything up yet!!!

once you figure it out, print some screen shots or what ever you can save and put the print outs in you manual. never know when the puter will give up the ghost and you loose what data you have on it

Good idea.. I'm sure there's something there about saving a screen.

I'm sure I have a couple of "rev's in neutral" codes I'll clear..

I would think a print out of when the motor was running good might give some good reference info if you have a problem and you want to see what changed

You can get some data with key in on position. Codes and hours at various speeds. Running, more data.

the ECU cannot be changed with YDS.
    plug it in.
    turn the key on.
    hit the button.
you will be disappointed as it wont show anything wrong unless there is a running issue.
you may see a shift position code. clear it or not.
most times it got set cause someone revved the motor in N.
Easy enough. Does the engine need to be running for THIS plug in test?

I know checking IF the ISC is working, the engine needs to be running (wet) so when "toggled" the idle goes up and down(I watched my master tech do that a couple years ago)..

Got it downloaded to the lap tap but I haven't plugged it into the engine yet..

When my computer GURU neighbor was down last month, I wanted him around when playing with it. He was super busy and we never got to it...

I'm pretty good on the puter, but I'd rather have another set of eyes so I don't screw anything up on a great running engine...

Cmon dude! I did have to change the com port setting on my lap top to make it work. Apparently it stuck as I didn't have to change it again.

Are you afraid to hook it up to the motor yourself to see if it will communicate?
