    1989 200s
Anyone get hit? My VHF antenna fried and burned back of radio. Wiped out basically anything with a circuit board. GPS, depthfinder, stereo, etc all dead.
Thought motors were OK but won't rev past 2000 or so. Oil control modules were fried so I thought limp mode. Replaced them and no more alarm.
Still in limp mode. Any ideas? Volts are 14 while running so voltage regulators OK. I'm thinking CDI units.......

do those motors have mechanical spark timing advance, or is it done electronically by the CDIs

Or maybe "control unit" under CDI?

Changed out CDI unit and control unit under it and same thing.....won't go over 2000 and shaking. Idles fine. Could charge coil/pickup be bad? Stator?

I hope Boscoe99 will chime in on what limits RPM on those motors.
but since it is shaking I would think the CDI cuts spark to limit the RPM to 2K.
maybe you can find a wire to the CDI from over temp or low oil that is bad causing the cdi to think something is calling for the limit

Yeah tried another pickup coil and stator and no difference. Interestingly tach not working now either. I wonder what wire(s) I can disconnect on CDI to stop it (limp mode) so I can use boat until I figure it out?
