What's the max voltage that the voltage regulator on a 1987 70hp yamaha should output? Mine is maxing out over 17V dc. I know it's only a 6A output, but at that voltage you'll cook a battery and electronics. Is this normal, or do I have a bad R/R?
Can't speak to the history of the boat... just got it. Lighting coil checks out at ~0.45 ohms, no short to ground, a/c voltage ranges from 9v to 45+ volts. It only takes a couple minutes at a fast idle for the output to climb to 17V+... measured at the regulator and at the battery.
Is there some alternative solution to regulating the power down to a more normal 14.5-15v?
