  • Water pump housing

I have a 1992 40MJHQ jet. What is the difference between water pump housing 6J8--44311-00-00 vs 663-44311-02-00. Price is $9.65 vs $38.66. Are the dimensions the same? I put a new water pump kit in but used original housing (6J8-44311-00-00).

Looks to me like 663-44311-02-00 is the housing for a motor that has a jet pump installed.

6J8-44311-00-00 is the housing for a motor that has a conventional lower unit installed.

It is a wee bit confusing. Maybe rodnut will ring in.

The motor is a factory jet, jet manual instruction state to use exsisting water pump from prop lower unit and transfer to jet lower unit when coverting to jet drive. It appears there are minor differences between the housings, Just a little confused? Both use the same water tube grommet where water tube inserts. Just a little confused?

        never really studied the difference.
I simply disassemble it, replace damaged parts as per the parts manual. go on to the next job.
I don't have to anganeer this stuff, I just fix it.

Here is some Yamaha advice regarding the water pump housing for a four stroke model. Not sure if it applies to your two stroke or not. Hope I am not adding further to the confusion.

It might be wise to contact the company that makes the jet pumps and see what they have to say.

            interesting,
what parts would be over cooling if the bleed hole was not there?
