  • F8 charge circuit

I have a 2004 F8 (pull start) that I'm trying to set up for charging a battery. It appears to have a rectifier. When running, if I put a multimeter on the red wire and motor body (ground), I only get 2.5 - 3 volts DC. Am I missing something to get 14 volts? Photos attached of the wires and rectifier.

    Thanks for the help.

Is the complete model of the motor not known?

That model has a rectifier/regulator. Needs to be connected to a battery for the full voltage to be indicated.

Thanks for the reply. I just hooked it up to battery and the voltage jumped to over 14 volts. What size wire should I run to the battery?

look to see how many amps you motor cam put out at WOT.
I would not expect a small motor to put out a lot maybe 6 to 10 amps.
but your owner's manual should give that info.
16 or 14 gauge would be plenty, but you could run 12 or bigger if you have it on hand

            14 gauge should do it.
