  • oil tank sensors ox66

2001 SX250 ox66>>>> There is an oil sensor in the remote tank and another sensor in the engine mounted tank .... My question is which sensor does what and what alarm or warning will each give ??

They determine if the motor needs oil in the motor tank, if that tank is full and if there is adequate oil in the boat tank. They are not sensors, they are simple switches, off or on, easy to test/check. What issue are you having?

thanks .... I figured as much, So where do these signals go ?? Is there an indicator on the gauges, ?? An alarm horn, ? do they register as the same low oil signal somewhere ?

Depending on which switch opens or closes, it “tells” the motor to reduce RPM and sets an alarm plus illuminates a light. That is if everything is working as it should.

The sensor switch being closed (float up) in the remote tank tells the CDI there is sufficient oil in the tank to allow for the automatic transfer of oil.

If the sensor switch is open (float down; low oil but not out) the CDI will stop the automatic transfer of oil. No alarm is given. But if you have a Yamaha tachometer it will indicate that the remote tank is low and needs to be refilled.

Once the main tank is refilled, automatic transfer will be enabled again.

The main oil tank sensor switch assembly has three switches. Top switch tells the CDI the tank is full and to stop the automatic transfer of oil. Middle switch tells the CDI the tank is down on oil and to refill it. The bottom switch tells the CDI the tank is almost out of oil.

The bottom switch closing due to low oil will cause the alarm to sound and the motor to go into RPM reduction mode. If a Yamaha tachometer is in use it will indicate low oil in the main tank.

Yep, that covers it, but….it would be nice if we knew what your issue is so a more specific answer can be given, unless of course, you just want to know how it works?
