last trip out port motor tilted up on its own. Came home worked ok then went up by itself in the driveway and would not go down. relay clicks only for down from switch at cowl or helm.
starboard motor works from all 3 switches.

sounds like a switch failed, they do get wet and short out and acuate the relay.
occasionally it can burn out a relay and or a trim motor.

      To the switch?

Will Ford type A be OK?

Are there separate relays for up and down? A relay clicks when switch is pressed for down.

          yes and no.
some older engines used two separate relays, later stuff used two relays in a single box.

sounds like you may have fried something, but that's what battery switchs are for.

do you have a hand held digital multimeter meter ?

What is the reason for only clicking when pressing switch for down? I have a new switch. Same thing.

                ok, locate the relay(s).
attach one meter lead to the large blue wire coming from the trim motor.
attach the other lead to the large green wire.
hit the trim up, you will read either 12V or -12v.
hit the trim down and the reading will be the opposite of up.
if you get 12v and the trim motor does not run,you fried it.
the switch's have 12V on the red wire and will apply that voltage to the up(blue) or down(green) control wires for the relays.

So you think adding transmission fluid to his T&T will stop it from going up by itself.

                  Strange, very strange
what some people come up with on these forums

                    Entertaining isn't it?

I would roll my eyes, maybe throw in an eek! also, but this browser won't let me.

I am wondering about adding some saw dust to my gear case to help quiet it down a bit.

I figure I got this solved. I jumped the relay and trim motor works. so I will replace relays.
                      Thanks for the input.

use banana peels to quite gear noise, for the rest either properly trouble shoot it or stand back and chunk wads o cash at it.
