Rebuilding this motor due to poor compression and leaking seals. When I separated the crank there was basically no gasket sealant on the 2 halves. Read in the manual it DOES NOT require sealant between the crank case. Is this correct? Seems very odd to me as I've probably rebuilt 5 engines and this is the only one to not have a sealant between the crank case. I've got a tube of yamibond to seal it if required

Go with the Yamibomd. I have seen some two stroke engines with no sealant...a chain saw I think? If the case halfs are machined to a high tolerance they can be theoretically put together with no sealant. But I think most manufacturers will call out sealant to take up any imperfections in the machining to insure no leaks. Most of the sealant is squeezed out during assembly and when disassembled there is very little left in the joint as you seen.
