  • F300 quits intermittently

Has anyone else had this problem?: My 2019 F300 engine with less than 100 hours starts and runs intermittently. Sometimes when running it would stop running and then not start back up. When this happened, engine would not trim up or down and electric steering would not work. Battery fully charged showing 12.5V or more.

Found: There is a red wire, larger than a control wire and smaller than the main engine starter wire, that loops up above the black plastic air intake manifold. Pulling and wiggling this wire occasionally resulted in all the above engine functions working again, so we suspected a loose connection somewhere.

Took the intake manifold off, and found a control plug in the area where this red wire loops above the air intake manifold. The plug pulled apart very easily. Plugged it back together until it clicked, and engine trimmed up/down and steering worked. Suspect this was the problem. Not fully satisfied, traced this red wire to the same lug the main positive starter wire shares at the starter post. Got about 1/8 turn on the nut securing this lug to post - basically felt it was fine. Tested all the other connections in the area, all wiring looks good.
Having a hard time trusting that the fix was this simple ..

The fact that trim, steering didn’t function and wiggling sometimes resolved the issue should lead to possibility of an easy fix. All you can do is run and find out.
