  • Identifying mid 90’s 2 stroke model

I’ve got a 25hp 2 stroke that I’m looking to have fitted with a jet lower unit. The Id tags on transom mount have been painted over and the jet manufacturer needs the exact model to make the lower unit. How can I determine model without the tags?

Look on the block for the serial number. Round decal. Usually near the starter motor. Look at the cdi box and the carburetors for any letters and/or numbers. What are they?

I found 6L200 7L M stamped on the carb. On the CDI box 6L2-10 and T1A02-19. No round decal that I can see. Thanks for your help.

        Excellent.

1993 is the last year the 6L2-14301-10-00 CDI box was used. In 1993 Yamaha USA offered 5 25 HP two stroke models. 25ELHR, 25ESHR, 25MLHR, 25MSHR and 25ELRR. I suspect your motor is one of these five.

E stands for electric start. M stands for manual start.

S stands for short shaft (15") and L stands for long shaft (20").

        R stands for remote control.

Hopefully now you can deduce what Yamaha model motor that you have.

From the jet makers standpoint only the shaft length should matter. But you better be clear as to what transom length the modified motor is to be installed upon

if 93 was the last year, what was the 1st year?
could he have a motor made before 1993?

Just in case it would make a difference

            1988.

Yes. He could have a motor made before 1993. But he said he thinks his motor is mid 1990's.

But if all of the mid section and lower unit parts are the same, for his purposes it should not matter.

Thank you for your help. The jet manufacturer is asking which displacement the engine has, 24.1 or 30. How can I find this information?

How many cylinders does your motor have?

Two cylinders = 24.1 ci. Three cylinders = 30.27 ci.

As far as I know they never did.

This thread might have fooled others like it once fooled me.

It is not about a 90 HP Yamaha. It is about a 25 HP Yamaha. From the mid 1990's he thought.

Had to read again and you are right, I was mistaken about it being a 90hp
