  • Continuous alarm, only in neutral. 2013 Yamaha T50

Having a weird situation that I can't figure out. Every once in a while, I will get a continuous alarm if my T50 is idling in neutral for an extended period.

This never happens in gear...even during prolonged running at very low RPM.

Turn the key off and restart and it goes away.

New impeller, new thermostat, good discharge from the tell tale.

My owners manual only speaks of a beeping alarm, not a continuous one.

    Anyone know what's up?

    Thank you!

ehh - language can be tricky.

Is "beeping" - by definition - a series of discrete sounds separated by brief periods of silence?

or can "beeping" be a continuous uninterrupted sound?

    I don't know myself, linguistically.

I can tell you that "generally", a continuous sound of an alarm horn
means either overheat or low oil (pressure, on a 4-stroke)
    - regardless of whether the engine is in gear or neutral.

but a series of "pulsed" beeps means the water-in-fuel switch is "on" (closed) -
and, on some models, will only be heard in neutral, not in gear.

Does a T50 even have a WIF detection switch?

Yeah, it's a continuous uninterrupted sound.

Strange thing is, if it was an overheating or low oil problem, it would surely happen when idling around the lake for extended periods. (this is a pontoon)

This only happened idling in neutral.

      Thanks

I thought 4 stroke oil pressure alarm was for out of range for the RPM it was running at on some motors, could be wrong, but too high or too low of a pressure might cause an alarm

Never heard of a Yam alarm for too much oil pressure.

seems like Rodbolt mentioned it before, just not being in the spec for that RPM.
could be lower or higher .
I have not read it anywhere else before
