Yamaha 2014 F115XB—Replaced impeller and reassembled water pump. Should I be able to spin the shaft after reassembling? I could not turn it and want to know before I run it.

    with a new impeller installed,
it might take some force to rotate the driveshaft,
perhaps more than you can achieve gripping with just your bare hand

so, you might use a pair of channellocks to turn it
but don't chew up the splines, or the smooth area where the bushing rides -

(presumably you removed the LU whilst it was in neutral -
    but if you didn't,
or accidentally turned the shift rod and put it into gear -
then of course the driveshaft is going to be very hard to rotate)

Agree with above - check to see that it's not in gear. If using some silicone grease when installing, I can usually spin by hand. If it went in dry, it might be very tough. If you spun it in backwards, that would make it harder.

If the new impeller is installed dry in the stainless steel cup then the friction of those neoprene impeller vanes against that cup will make it hard to turn….I always grease mine, but folks use dish-washing liquid, silicone or other lubricant to help with the first turns….
