  • Issues with wiring a tachometer 2009 90 Yamaha outboard

    Hey everyone I have. 2009 90 four stroke outboard and currently trying to wire a tachometer. I spliced into the green wire in the main harness that goes to the throttle control box and followed the directions on the tachometer instructions. Wondering what I am missing? Thanks

    Why?

    Where is the power and ground?

      Is that a tiller steered motor?

        The power and ground is all hooked up behind the gauge on the dash,

        it has remote controls

              It shouldn’t make a difference tho where I took the battery and key power from tho? I just wired those under those under the dash and then spliced
              into the tack signal

                the problem is we have no idea where you got your power and ground (if they are good ones when key is in the one position)

                have you checked to be sure they are good and the tach powers up?

                we also have no idea what tach you have and what you set it to for your motor

                  Yup I verified the power is from a key source (yellow) wire in the Yamaha harness and the black ground and used the green tach signal wire.

                  using this gauge

                    That tach uses an inductive pickup.

                      I guess this means it is Not a tach for an outboard motor

                        Looks to be for a drag racing car.

                          seems he would have picked up on that when reading the manual to set it up properly as he said he did

                            That tach can be used with a inductive pickup and a hard wired signal.
