  • 2002 90HP 2-stroke - neutral gear

    Hello,

we are having some trouble before putting the lower unit back on, getting the gear into Neutral.
We definitly took the lower unit out while it was in N. While changing the impeller we might have moved the gear shaft a little.

It seems we are in "no man's land" now, meaning we are in "forward" and it wont change.

It looks like we are missing the special "trick" to get the gear into N before putting it back on.

Any help/tipp is very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I use a shift shaft tool.
if your carefull and pad a set of plier jaws you can grab the shift shaft and rotate it back to N.

We tried already doing it gently with a plier and a piece of a towel, works great.

On the yamaha the shaft needs to be turned clockwise, not counter-clockwise.
Its then very easy to find neutral
