  • Drive Shaft shimming???

Planning to change my corroded drive shaft, i need to know if this job will required reshimming??

  • #2
Is it corroded enough to effect it’s function as the drive shaft?……otherwise clean it with abrasives, grease it and leave it alone…

shafts should the machined to a very good tolerance, the case change is usually when re-shimming is needed.
but the shop manual should say what to do

thank you guys for your input, i will check the manual. Well the shaft is in bad condition, dont know if its worth to replace it for now. I already bought a new one, but if its too much of a pain i will leave it alone for now, and install it later on.

I agree….a 3M Scotchbrite abrasive pad is good for rust removal and polishing…..clean top splines with wire brush…Then a coat of grease over the entire shaft should help prevent further corrosion….

I would use strips of emery cloth to clean that shaft.
you can clean about 1/2 around the shaft with maybe 2ft long strip buffing like the old shoe shine guy
work your way down the shaft and then turn the shaft 180
