  • FT9.9 oil separator drips oil in carburetor

I have a 2001 FT9.9 long shaft. There is excess oil dripping out of the mouth of the carburetor every time I use it. I have checked the one way valves in the separator, and they seem OK. Is there a way to stop this oil from dripping out into the engine case?

    its called blowby gasses.
    do a leak down test.
    try a good decarb.

Roger that. I know #2 has a lower compression reading than #1 from a test I did a few years back. I had the head off last week and poured water into each depression in the head with the valves set to tdc. #1 held the water fine, but #2 drained to empty in about 2 minutes into both the intake side and the exhaust side. The valves may be carboned up. I don't think they are burned, but I will need to pull them to see for sure. Boat work never ends
      Thanks.

Is the water mist onto the carburetor intake method of Decarbonizing likely to clean carbon from the valves, or is it necessary to lap the valves?

if I had the head off I would at least lap the valves.
