  • what is this?

New outboard to me. 2000 F40 4 stroke.

The Tell Tail is in the back and shows strong pressure. What is this water hose sticking out the side of the outboard? Also runs nicely when motor running. Any help appreciated. I feel like something is unhooked.

It's the flush hose which can be used to flush your motor. Appears it's missing the joint nozzle that attaches to a garden hose.

thank you Jason2tpa. Should water not be allowed to run out during operation? It's warmed water running out. Maybe it doesn't matter. Jim

If it's un-hooked or missing parts in your case, yes water will flow from it. As stated, it's a flush hose so it runs direct to the power head..

It IS "taking" some water that would go to powerhead and dumping it prematurely.

Plug it up for now while operating. Get the rest of the parts your missing and it will screw onto the engine and then it won't be necessary to plug it up.
You'll also be able to flush the engine W/O running-Female end of a garden hose style end, hooks up to the male end of your fresh water garden hose

Crimp the hose in half and tighten down a zip tie over the hose near the crimp. Quick fix till you get the parts. No biggie
