  • Engine won't idle when in the water

One of my Yamaha 250 crabed motors started fine when on land, fired and idled for a couple minutes in the water, then died and would not restart.

I eventually got it to restart using a flooded motor technique (full throttle) when out of the water. It would run and idle, but when I lowered the boat back into the water it slowed and died and would not start again.

The throttle/shift controls have been changed since the sea trial when both motors ran fine. Could a bad throttle adjustment cause this? How does the choke/prime system work. It seems the engine is flooding out, you can smell fuel after it dies when I remove the cowling.

I'm new to this boat and motors so want to be sure I know what I'm doing before starting to change anything.

    Thanks - Greg

Sounds like the carbs are flooding, time to clean them, it might even be bad diaphram in fuel pumps
